We recently reported that Bollywood peeps are very keen on bringing the epic tale of Mahabharata on the 70 mm. Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan has allegedly walked out of the Rakesh Sharma biopic, Salute to work on bringing Mahabharata to life. But earlier this morning we hear that Sonam Kapoor has already bought the rights to a book that is based on the epic tale. A novel based on Singapore based writer Krishna Udayshankar's debut book Govinda will be adapted into a modern-day saga. In an interview given to a leading daily, Sonam said that it's a book that can easily be adapted into a film and she's going to do it.
After Sonam's brilliant and spectacular performance in Neerja, it'll be interesting to see Sonam essay the role of a modern-day Draupadi. Speaking of her role, Sonam told a leading daily, "I don't know which character I will essay, but it's Indian mythology, which is spectacular and has a lot of potential." While we can't wait for more details on this project, seems like a Hollywood hottie is interested in being cast opposite Sonam. The Pursuit of Happiness actor, Will Smith who landed in Mumbai yesterday spoke about reading the Mahabharata and India. In an interview given to Vogue India, the actor spoke about his fourth trip to the Indian sub-continent. He said, "I've been here a few times, and I love the history. I'm about 90 percent through the Bhagavad Gita right now and you know, to be reading it and to be here in this country, I feel like my inner Arjuna is being channeled. I’m going to Rishikesh soon so I’m definitely going to be spending a lot more time here."
Wouldn't it be great to actually see Will be a part of a Bollywood film? While we know his acting sensibilities are beyond perfection, we bet he can shake a leg on our desi songs too. Wondering how we know this? During a press interaction earlier yesterday, the actor grooved to a Punjabi number that has cast a spell on all of us.
Smith also showed off his dancing skills when hosts Rannvijay Singha and Bani requested the team to shake a leg for the Indian fans, who waited for over four hours at the venue for the actor to come up on the stage. Bollywood composers Vishal-Shekhar also performed at the event and added more energy to the evening with their enthusiasm. They performed on songs like Bachna Ae Haseeno, Ude Dil Befikre and Swag Se Swagat.
With so much of desi swag, we can't wait to see Will Smith in a Bollywood film. Watch this space for more updates...
